Description of "Motion in a Forest:
This is an example of one of my favorite stump art pieces that I call "Motion…”  I wanted inspire one's imagination to see wings in flight.  The front is fashioned from oak, and the top’s boarders are pine.

Upon completing this piece, I noticed the best conceptual appearance of motion can be viewed from the right side of the birdhouse.  The bend in the twisted and broken pine limb simulates an avian wing power stroke that would produce forward motion.

By making a close-up examination of the front you may see a continuation of changing elements.  A critical examination of the piece may reveal from the top down a change in the appearance of the natural wood grain to feathers, then to fur or hair.

The top appears to be "captured" by a natural pine cone swath.  Observe the apex of the top front and imagine that a pine cone holds the element of the "wing" in place.  Yet still, the piece renders the sensation of moving, energy, or motion created by wings in flight.

The entire roof structure is unattached to the nesting box of the birdhouse to accommodate annual clean out.  The house mounts from the bottom and is designed to use a 3/8" pipe connection that is easily adaptable to most any standard birdhouse mounting post.  All the pine cone pieces have been hand selected to effect variegation in surface color, waterproof glued into place and fastened by staple or tack.  The finished surface is shellac coated to bring out the natural color of the pine cone pieces, and finally it is weatherproofed using a UV resistant clear liquid two part epoxy that encapsulates the structure for impact resistance, limited solar protection when used as a functional birdhouse in a garden area or yard.  My hope is for my work to last many lifetimes in the buyer's family tree as unique and valued pieces of art suitable for either an indoor or an outdoor décor accent piece.

Inspiration, imagination, and the gift of creation are intricate parts I try to build into every piece of my work.  I hope you find them to manifest in this structure.
