Description of The Eyebrow Entrance:
The subtle formation of the remaining oak wood over the space where once an oak tree limb extended from the tree captured my attention.  I discovered this little piece of wood on a disintegrating oak tree that had fallen many years past.  My thoughts scurried quickly to a simple little architectural feature called an eyebrow window incorporated into a roof structure to bring light into a closed attic space.  Hence came the name of this decorated birdhouse design.  The effect seems to be preparing the entry for a fetching 'blink" welcoming a nesting pair back home as they enter and lay claim to the enclosed nesting box.  Although this is a visually understated feature, once focused upon, the eyebrow feature becomes the defining characteristic of the piece.

The outside surface of this structure has been covered with pine cone petals that are individually attached in place using waterproof glue, tacks, and staples.  Although The Eyebrow Birdhouse may well be used as an indoor, covered patio/deck, or a sun room décor accessory, it is in every aspect a functional outdoor birdhouse.  The piece has been coated with shellac for color enhancement, then covered with a two part epoxy finish using a UV resistant clear liquid epoxy that encapsulates the structure for impact resistance, limited solar protection, and a lustrous outdoor life.

The removable top uses natural veneers from the decomposing oak tree to accentuate the roof pitch.  The roof sides have been adorned with smaller pieces of oak veneer along with oak tree bark crafted to appear to be held in place by the pine cone petals.  The back of this house has a "bird tail" oak veneer that seems to grow out of the structure and is held in place by the pine cone pieces.  The design encourages the viewer to make a 360 degree examination of this stunning little eyebrow birdhouse.

The piece mounts from the bottom via a 3/8 inch piece of standard threaded pipe, not included, with the purchase.  It is a one of a kind piece and comes with a letter of authentication as well as a brass plaque designating the structure as an Original Art Work.  I loved building this piece, and the way this example of Nature's handiwork turned out!
