Description of "Always Autumn":
It's autumn again. It is the time when Nature begins to blend her palate of colors in preparation for the full glory of a painted forest of hardwoods. Green chlorophyll production in the leaf has peaked out over the summer days. Earth and Sun continue their annual dance swinging into a more separated partnership, still together but with a slightly different relationship to one another. Growth slows down. Sunlight fades. The tempo lessens. Less food for the tree leaf is required. However some food, glucose sugar, becomes trapped in the foliage continuing to attempt to feed the waning leaves' need for nourishment. To overcome the melancholy, Nature dips her brush!
Now no longer food, in the direct energy rays of light, glucose supersedes the chlorophyll turning the leaf a bright red. As this natural unprocessed sugar is absorbed through sunshine and cool air, the leaf fades across the spectrum of colors only Nature's brush can lay down - orange hews, then yellow, some purple and streaks of maroon here and there - until all but the brown leaf fiber is left becoming renewed food for the forest in subsequent years. It is the closing of one beautiful cycle making way into the next one. This is always autumn. This walking stick's representation of such a beautiful sequence of events is designed to enhance your appreciation of the glory of an autumn season.
You will find attached to the bottom of this cedar tree stick a rubber gripper that has been fashioned from a discarded bicycle tire. For accent, the carved leaf boarders have been ebonized by soaking the chipped out cavities in a blend of my own formula of iron rust, red wine and vinegar. The wood, ebonizing, acrylic paint, and honey suckle vine have been encapsulated under a clear coat sealer that provides a protective non-yellowing and scratch resistant finish. The vine is new growth honeysuckle and is both glued and nailed to the cedar cane. The leaves have been revealed from the wood by a chip carving technique wherein the surface plane of the cedar cane is the same as the surface of the leaf. The cedar wood walking stick is 44.5" long, 5.5" diameter at the grip. This piece is handmade and a unique one of a kind rendering of American southern highlands craft art. Thank you for reading the description and for visiting my store.
