Description of USA Flag with Eagle Feathers:
A pair of eagle feathers rest just above the American flag and appear to be passing both under and over the top of the star spangled section of the American flag. The carved stick is oak wood. Beginning with the flag an continuying down to the bottom base of the stick the wood has been ebonized by soaking the oak with my own formula of iron rust, red wine, and vinegar to darken the wood as well as give it a rustic, mottled effect. The handle grip section along with the eagle feathers remain a naturl oak stain so that more attention and balance is concentrated upon the lower darkened flag and base area. The rubber gripper on the bottom has been fashioned from a bicycle tire. Using such recycled materials affords and encourages others to make the connection that fine craft art and discarded materials may be mutually adopted to create something long-lasting, functional, and beautiful as well! The paint is acrylic under a clear coat sealer covering the entire piece providing a protective non-yellowing finish. This gives a "glass coating" patina to the cane. I have signed and dated the piece along the base; however, the ebonizing has mostly obscured the signature.
Fourteen stars are either partially or completely revealed on the American flag. The walking stick is 43" long as originally completed, and the handle and base sections of the stick allow for some length adjustment if so desired. When purchased the owner will receive a signed and dated document of authentication of the piece. Although this has been designed to be a functional walking stick, it is not a medical device, nor has it recommended as such.
